Full time

Front-end web developer

Macer Media
Competitive salary

AdGlue is a new advertising platform for small and medium sized businesses executing local-to-local targeted online advertising. Last month, we were a top-3 final SXSW accelerator finalist and are receiving national accolades. We're looking for an awesome front-end developer to help us grow!

Our Company

Macer Media is a tech-focused startup that has several innovative assets. We reached great success with our award-winning hyper-local news site, The Sacramento Press. We started the first ever successful hyper-local ad network, sloan (Sacramento Local Online Advertising Network). We also own DealTicket, SacMix and Agency M, our own in-house digital agency.

Our office is a casual and relaxed work environment in a converted freight rail building with 20-foot ceilings and an open floor plan. We provide employee benefit premiums, including health, dental and vision benefits. Producing high-quality results and high-impact work deserves some balance. We offer the most competitive and rewarding time-off package available.

Your Role

As a front-end developer for AdGlue, your work will be the face of innovation at our company. There's a lot to do here, but your core responsibility will be working with other developers to create new features for AdGlue's website and ad platform. Because you'll be a front-end developer, you'll primarily be working in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and templating code. You'll also be creating mockups, graphics and icons for the site as we develop new features.

Because we have an awesome site that our customers use to build ads, manage their billing and interact with others (all with a modern browser, of course), you'll need to:

- Write clear, concise and semantic markup
- Code for both desktop and mobile experiences through CSS3 media queries
- Integrate with 3rd party tools such an image croppers, deal sites and social media platforms
- Design and implement fun and engaging user experiences that blow away the usual mundane reporting, billing, and windows-wizard drudgery

Because we're also serving innovative, interactive ads that need to load fast and work with browsers across the web, you'll need to:

- Write JavaScript that would make Douglas Crockford proud
Code a jQuery upload form in your sleep but have no trouble writing out an XMLHttpRequest if you wanted to avoid the library hit
- Know why PageSpeed and YSlow chose the rules they did, and why they matter
- Tell us why we need to pay attention to Microsoft's P3P policies when serving our ads

In order to work well in this role, you'll need to be rock-solid in the following areas:

- HTML5
- CSS 2/3 (we use SASS & Compass)
- JavaScript (we use jQuery as our primary JS library)
Photoshop, Fireworks, Illustrator, Pixelmator or equivalent
At least one front-end templating technology (we use Groovy GSPs)
- UNIX command-line familiarity
- MVC concepts (we use Grails)
- Familiarity with at least one object-oriented programming language (we use Groovy and Java)
- Familiarity with standard web development methodologies and tools such as source control and bug tracking (we're an agile shop that uses Git for source control)
