Where do you currently work, how long have you been there, what do you do?
I currently work for INALLIANCE, a nonprofit that provides support services for adults with physical and developmental disabilities. I have been employed for almost 4 years as the community engagement coordinator. As the Community Engagement Coordinator, I facilitate and implement the agency’s public relations and fund development strategies including: Coordination of agency branding, advertising and informational publications; developing and implementing fund raising events and activities.
Prior to that?
Prior to INALLIANCE, I worked for Quality Group Homes, a nonprofit that assisted foster youth getting back on track. I worked on the implementation of Assembly Bill (AB) 1453 which authorized a five-year pilot demonstration project to transform the State's current system of long-term congregate group home care into a system of Residentially Based Services (RBS) programs. These RBS programs seek to reduce the length of time in group care and improve permanency outcomes for youth by combining short-term residential stabilization and treatment with follow-along community-based services to reconnect youth to their families and communities.
What is your educational background?
I have a B.A. in Liberal Studies with an emphasis on multicultural bilingual education. Additionally, I have an M.S in Public Policy and Administration. Both degrees are from Sacramento State #StingersUp.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part about my job is that I get to build meaningful relationships with the community. So many people are unaware of the impact that INALLIANCE has on the community and I enjoy talking to individuals and help remove some of the misconceptions about what it means to have a disability.
What do you love about living in Sacramento?
Sacramento has been home for the last decade. I have seen it grow so much in such a short amount of time. I love living on the grid and being able to walk to my favorite restaurants and bars to meet up with friends.
What is one thing that might surprise people about you?
I’m not a big sweets or candy person, but I have a slight addiction to Haribo gummy bears.
When you aren't in the office, where can we find you?
When not in the office I love taking advantage of the fact that we are so close to many awesome places. I love being outdoors and being active. But you can usually find me at one of the many local craft beer establishments on the grid.
