It’s a new year and this is the perfect time to set some professional development goals or make a career change! The Metro EDGE theme for 2019 is #MakeYourMark, and a great way to make your mark this year is to join a Metro EDGE committee. Metro EDGE has five committees: Engage, Develop, Give, Empower, and Communications. These committees are comprised of member volunteers who meet regularly to set goals, plan events, and empower the EDGE membership as a whole. Joining a committee is a great way to:
Meet fellow EDGErs
Metro EDGE hosts many events throughout the year where you can network with other young professionals, but being on a committee is the best way to meet fellow EDGErs who have similar career interests as you do and get to know them better.
Sharpen your job skills
Metro EDGE committees are perfect for building up your resume. Not only will being on a committee look good on your resume, it will help you sharpen your job skills and gain new ones. Did you just start a new job in marketing and want to get more experience under your belt? Join the Communications committee! Do you have years of experience in the non-profit sector and want to share your knowledge of fundraising? Join the Give committee!
Figure out your dream job
Are you looking to make a career change but you’re not sure what industry you want to switch to? Joining a committee can help you explore your career interests and gain experience in the direction you want to go. Want to get your feet wet with event planning? Join our Engage committee! Want a taste of what it would be like to work in public policy? Join the Empower committee! On the other hand, if you’re already working in your dream industry and want to focus on career advancement, the Develop committee is a good option!
If you’re interested in joining a Metro EDGE committee, register here for our next In the Mix on January 15th where you can meet members of each committee and learn more about what being involved in each entails. If you’re already on a committee or can’t commit to joining a committee right now, we still encourage you to attend this mixer so you can network and meet fellow EDGErs!
Cheers to 2019 being the year you #MakeYourMark!
This is a guest post by Gina McLaughlin, member of the Communications committee. Gina currently works at the California Restaurant Association as a Legislative Coordinator. When she’s not on the clock, she’s probably training for her next run, planning her next travel adventure, or checking out one of the Sacramento grid’s newest restaurants.
