Metro EDGE's "Why we love Sacramento?” series features some of Sacramento’s most prominent bloggers and what makes Sacramento so special to them.
Ashlee Gadd, author of Where My Heart Resides, talks about why she calls Sacramento home.
When asked what I love about Sacramento, a variety of things rushed to my mind. Endless pizzettas at The L Wine Lounge, delicious flavors and toppings at Yogurt-a-go-go, mini corndogs at Ten22, French toast at Tower Café….
Wait, what was the question?
Kidding. It’s pretty safe to say that Sacramento is not lacking in the wine and dine department—and likewise, there are plenty of places to go and things to do here. But for me, one aspect of this town stands out far above the rest, and that’s the people living in it.
A born and raised Bay Area native, the community mindset of Sacramento was obvious from the first day I moved here, when the Nugget cashier greeted me with a big smile and asked about my day. I was so taken back by her friendliness, it took me a few seconds to even muster up a response. Four years later, I am proud to report that Sacramento has introduced me to friends who have impacted my life in big ways.
Sacramento is a community. We all want to see each other succeed, and want to help each other get there. Need a job? Need a hand? Need a volunteer for your event? All you have to do is ask. When I needed a job at the beginning of the year, it only took a handful of emails before the leads were pouring in. Six weeks later, I was happily employed and overwhelmed by the amount of “congratulations” I had received from people I barely knew.
Sacramento is genuine. It’s a place where people say “hello”, “please”, and “thank you” on a regular basis. A place where people stop to converse, and find moments throughout the week to celebrate each other’s achievements. It’s a place where friendly competition is encouraged, but not the focus. A place where you can follow your dreams, and find moral support along the way.
And that, my friends, is what I love about Sacramento. Almost as much as I love the flavors and toppings at Yogurt-a-go-go.
