Position Summary and Requirements: The key measures of success for the Associate Director are to (a) join Midtown Association and build out this new position for the organization with a breadth of knowledge in fundraising and events, (b) focus on maintaining our existing sponsorship relationships while building additional resources, (c) support the vision of our existing events management team to grow their events, and (d) deliver a robust special event program with these funds to increase visitor spending in Midtown.

Associate Directors have successful supervisory experience of staff and consultants, are able to act as the staff support to committees of board members and expert community members, are politically astute, drive program budget development and deliver program projects within developed budgets, operate with high integrity to uphold company policies, and can plan program performance to generate specific outcomes. Associate Directors bring recommendations to their supervisor for greater efficiency and service delivery in the organization. Associate Directors create partnerships in coordination with senior management to build pathways to generate funds to grow and sustain the organization. Associate Directors should have no less than five years of professional experience in a relevant area and a bachelor’s degree in a relevant area of study.

Basic Employment Qualifications: All candidates should have experience with Microsoft Suite, project management software, the ability to speak, read and clearly write in English, the ability to lift up to 40 pounds, and be able to remain on their feet outdoors for up to 10 hours per day in potentially inclement weather (unlikely but required by HR to note). Candidates must have experience with fundraising, special events, and communications. All candidates should anticipate pre-employment background checks, driving record checks, and drug screening, with the potential for ongoing drug screening based on job tasks. Bachelor’s degree required. Reliable personal transportation is required.

Work Environment: The work environment is located primarily inside and consists of completing tasks involving project management, relationship building and maintenance, communications, administration, and event oversight. Conditions can range to include working outside in all types of inclement weather including regular check in visits to events that may occur on the weekend or in the evening. Must be able to work around varying degrees of noise. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. Must be able to work with fast moving conditions at times.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Sponsorships:

  • Maintain approximately 150 existing annual sponsorship relationships for the organization and identify an estimated additional 50 annual sponsorships for the organization (estimated at $250K per year). Ensure all sponsorship details are tracked in the organization’s project management system and that all benefits are executed fully through the events and programs.
  • Manage renewals and negotiations, ensure strong communications with sponsors, including providing proof of performance to sponsors to maintain strong relationships, and aligning their business needs with Midtown Association’s events, projects and program needs. Engage the Executive Director and other senior leaders as needed to participate in relationship management.
  • Coordinate with the Business Operations Manager to ensure all payments are received prior to benefits implementation.
  • Lead the Market Manager and Events Manager to implement all sponsorship benefits well at events.
  • Identify untapped sponsorship opportunities in programs and events across the organization and develop sponsorship packages for these items.

Special Events:

  • Oversee the Market Manager to execute a strong farmer’s market program plan on budget and in compliance with insurance and contract requirements. Events include the Midtown Farmers Market and forthcoming markets.
  • Oversee the Events Manager to execute an annual work plan of events and promotions on budget. Events include the Midtown Mini followed by Midtown Love annual fundraiser, Fresh Air: Fremont Park seasonal wellness programming and co-working events, Wednesdays at Winn, other parks programming, event support for specific businesses throughout the district, and spring and summer promotions to support economic development in the region including event recruitment.

Benefits: This is a full-time, exempt position at no less than 40 hours per week. Schedule is generally Monday through Friday, standard working hours, however there are regular variations for public and evening meetings and to accommodate special events.
